Does going on hospice mean giving up?

I thank God for them I would not have been able to get through this without their care and guidance. Truly amazing people who love what they do.
— Mizz Ladee
Now, once again we have called on Silverado to help me with my father in law. They keep him very comfortable. This is all we ask for, is to keep him comfortable, with no pain.
— Sharon Wright
From the very first day, Latina approached her duties with a level of empathy and understanding that instantly put my mom at ease, which is not easy to do! She has connected with my mom on a personal level, making her feel valued, respected and most importantly, heard. My mom always mentions how Latina's warm presence and genuine care make her days brighter and more comfortable. Latina's expertise in hospice care and years of experience is evident in every aspect of her work.
— Joanne Goodson
Eli Perez has been kind, loving and caring towards my mom. She is considerate even during my mom's sundowning condition due to her Alzheimer's disease. It is difficult to deal with patients with this disease but Eli has the knowledge to deal with mom with compassion and care.

Where we provide hospice care in the North Houston area

Our care teams serve patients and families across North Houston, Spring, The Woodlands, Humble, Conroe and the surrounding communities. Hospice is a service, not a place — care comes to wherever your loved one lives, whether that’s a private home, an assisted living or memory care community, or a skilled nursing facility.

Paying for hospice care in Texas

Hospice is funded by Medicare Part A, by Medicaid and by most private insurers, so for most families there is little or no out-of-pocket cost for hospice care. In many cases hospice actually relieves financial pressure, because medications, equipment and supplies related to the hospice diagnosis are covered. Our North Houston team can verify coverage and walk you through the benefit when you call.

Common questions from Houston families

Does Medicare cover hospice in North Houston?

Yes. The Medicare Part A hospice benefit covers hospice care for eligible patients, and Medicaid and most private insurance plans offer comparable coverage. That includes visits from the care team, medications for comfort, and medical equipment related to the hospice diagnosis.

Can my loved one receive hospice at home?

Yes — most of the patients we serve receive hospice care in the place they call home, whether that’s a private residence, an assisted living or memory care community, or a nursing facility anywhere in the greater Houston area.

Does starting hospice mean giving up?

No. Hospice is not designed to shorten or prolong life — it shifts the focus to comfort and quality of life, for the patient and the whole family. Some patients even outlive their prognosis, and care plans are adjusted for as long as they remain eligible.

The creation of Silverado Hospice was inspired when our nurses saw an unfilled need for end of life care that truly addressed all possible needs of the mind, body and spirit. In 2004 this inspiration became a reality and Silverado began using our unique and innovative approach to provide hospice care.
