A Red Carpet Return: Celebrating John S. at The Paramount Theater
June 17, 2025

In May, Silverado Hospice had the honor of helping one of our remarkable patients, John S., celebrate a milestone birthday in a way that was truly unforgettable.
John, an Air Force veteran and longtime projectionist at The Paramount Theater, spent over 20 years behind the scenes making sure films ran smoothly for countless moviegoers. A master of his craft, John was deeply devoted to the art of traditional film projection and resisted the shift to digital technology as long as he could. His hands helped bring stories to life—reel by reel—for decades.
To celebrate his birthday, Silverado Hospice reached out to The Paramount Theater as they prepared to launch their beloved Summer Classic Film Series. When the team at the theater heard that John might return, they jumped at the chance to welcome him back. Together with Silverado Barton Springs Memory Care, we arranged for transportation and support so John could enjoy a truly special day.

Knowing John’s love for science fiction, we chose a film close to his heart: Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. When he arrived, John was met with a hero’s welcome. Escorted into the theater and honored with a red carpet treatment, he was recognized in front of a full audience with a heartfelt introduction and presentation before the movie began.
The visit was made even more special by the presence of many of John’s former coworkers and friends, who came to reconnect and reminisce about their time together at the theater. It was a day full of joy, nostalgia, and meaningful moments that John—and all of us—will never forget.
At Silverado Hospice, we are committed to honoring the life stories and passions of our patients. Being part of this incredible day for John was a privilege and a beautiful reminder of how much impact one life can have on a community.
Happy Birthday, John—and thank you for the stories you’ve helped tell, and the ones you continue to inspire.
