December is the time of year when kids and adults of all ages receive toys and gifts for Christmas. It is also recognized as National Safe Toys & Gifts Month.

Everyone wants to celebrate this time together without fear of hurt or harm, so it is essential to purchase toys for recipient’s actual age and developmental stage. Young children should not be gifted toys with small parts such as coins, batteries, and small pieces that can easily detach and create choking hazards.

Be cautious of purchasing cheaply made toys and gadgets that can easily break into sharp pieces. Always look for and purchase sturdy items from trusted stores and reputable sources – buying knockoffs can be dangerous, even fatal. Additionally, be cautious of potential strangulation risks from items having cords or strings longer than 7 inches.

Reconsider purchasing items that produce excessively loud sounds, to protect your loved ones from hearing loss; and always purchase helmets and knee pads when buying riding toys like bikes and scooters to minimize the risk of head trauma and broken boys from falls. The team at Silverado Hospice wishes you and yours an incredibly happy and prosperous Holiday Season!
