Meet Some of our Volunteers
November 10, 2020
Silverado Hospice volunteers are caring, dedicated people who share their time to help make a difference to those who are nearing the end of their lives. We are blessed to have such an amazing team of volunteers who selflessly contribute their time, talents and, most importantly, their compassionate spirits.
Please take a moment to meet some of these amazing volunteers who give so much to our patients and their families!

Connie Miller has been a volunteer with Silverado Hospice since 2013. When Connie was a young adult, she was at her grandmother’s side while she passed. “Over the years, I have often reflected back to this moment and it was this experience that eventually led me to volunteer with Silverado”. She has a passion for the elderly and loves to listen to their stories of yesteryear, going for walks, reading with them, or simply sitting holding hands offering quiet companionship. She feels her life is enriched by the time spent with each patient, learning of their joy’s, struggles, loves, and heartaches, but mostly by their appreciation that shine through their eyes and smiles. In her free time, she enjoys live music, new adventures, and the precious time spent with family and friends. “Be the reason somebody smiles today”

Arthur Ter-Pogosyan has been serving as a Silverado Hospice volunteer since 2019. As a direct patient care volunteer, Arthur provides companionship and supportive care to our hospice and memory care center patients during his regular visits. As a UCLA undergraduate student aspiring to become a physician, Arthur deeply appreciates the opportunity to positively impact the lives of our patients, and he cherishes the growth and maturation opportunities that arise from his meaningful relationships and encounters with them. Arthur strives to continually improve as a volunteer by internalizing the skills and lessons he learns during his patient visits. We hope to see him carry the invaluable attributes that he has gained and polished as a volunteer for the rest of his life.

Alexis Gutierrez started as a volunteer with Silverado Hospice in 2019. She is a pre-medical student who aspires to get into medical school to become a doctor. Alexis graduated from California State University, Los Angeles on December 16, 2019 with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Microbiology. She believes that every patient she has visited has been such a blessing in her life and an honor to share beautiful and painful moments with them. From the awkward introductions to becoming good friend with not just each of her patients but with their families as well. Alexis’ favorite moments are learning more about the different backgrounds and stories patients have shared with her.

Michael Turner joined the volunteer program at Silverado Hospice in May of 2020. He works as a Post Production Accountant for Netflix. “I really enjoy giving back to my community, and trying to help when given the opportunity. I feel that volunteering with Silverado Hospice is a great chance to be there for the patient, and their family.” Michael’s grandfather passed away from Alzheimer’s and Dementia in the early 2000s, and he got to witness first hand the gift that hospice volunteering can be to a family.

Alyssa Wong has always had a passion for helping and caring for others. Her firsthand experience of providing comfort and care to her grandfather inspired her to become a Silverado hospice volunteer in 2019. Alyssa enjoys the experience of providing companionship and forming connections with her patients. An essential role in her life is to continuously give back to her community. She is working towards her goal of becoming a physician.

Minami Lambert is a SoCal native, recently moved back here from foggy San Francisco. Enjoying the sun so very much and slowly becoming a plant mom. Currently figuring out this scary but exciting journey called life. I look forward to spending some time with you and learning about your journey.

Carolyn Habiger has been volunteering as a hospice volunteer with Silverado since 2019. She enjoys the experience of helping to provide comfort and companionship to those in need and her favorite part about volunteering is hearing the varied and unique life stories of her patients. In her free time she loves to run, cook, ski and spend time with friends and family.
