6th Annual Family Reunion in the Park

6th Annual Silverado Family Reunion & BBQ

Silverado North Houston Hospice held our 6th Annual Family Reunion & BBQ on April 6, 2019 at Southwell Park in Spring, TX. Our patients’ families gathered together with the Silverado team for an afternoon of socializing and reminiscing. The kids enjoyed the playground and basketball court and even the horse on the neighboring property came up to the fence to see all the fun going on!

We feasted on delicious homemade brisket, BBQ beans and potato salad prepared by our very own Sabra Egbert, Volunteer Manager.

Everyone was invited to take part in two different creative activities designed to memorialize their loved ones by filling bottles with colored sand or decorating and planting a small succulent. The different colors of sand represented characteristics and memories of the person they loved or the life they shared with that person. The succulents were cut from a larger succulent plant the day before so they could heal from the cut overnight before being re-planted by our families in mini-terra cotta pots they decorated themselves. The plants symbolized the possibility of new growth after an injury.

Fortunately, the rain held off just long enough for us to finish the celebration. Everyone walked away with a smile on their face and in their heart, and a new, unique memory to take home.
